November to February: 10 AM – 4 PM ESTFuel your passion for racing all year long! The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is open 363 days a year—every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas. You can experience the thrill of the Indianapolis 500 while you’re waiting for next May.
The Museum is located inside the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval, nestled between Turns 1 and 2. Access to Museum Parking is FREE except during Speedway events, when IMS requires tickets or credentials to access the facility. Simply enter the grounds through Gate 2 at the four-lane tunnel on westbound 16th Street.

Children (0-5): $2 with First Child FREETickets include all-day admission to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum and all public exhibitions. For an additional $10 per person, a skilled Museum Host will lead you on a guided tour of the museum, enriching your experience with exclusive stories from Speedway history.
The Museum also offers a variety of Track Tours that go “behind the scenes” at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway. These exclusive tours are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn about racing history and experience the Speedway like never before. With the Museum as your guide, you can explore the famous Pagoda, stand atop Victory Podium, and even stop to Kiss the Bricks!
While walk-in tour purchases are welcome, reservations are highly recommended. Tour types and schedules are subject to change depending on weather and track activity.

School and Group Visits
Learn about racing history at the Racing Capital of the World! The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum welcomes groups and students interested in the history of motorsports, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Indianapolis 500. Education is an essential part of our mission, as we strive to tell the stories behind the Greatest Spectacle in Racing and the incredible lessons learned both on and off the track.
The museum is open for school tours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 AM – 3 PM. Three weeks notice is required, and a maximum of 150 students are allowed per day. Teachers and drivers receive complimentary admission, while adult chaperones qualify for discounted $8 admission.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Museum is located inside the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval—between Turns 1 and 2. Guests should enter through Gate 2 along 16th Street. For GPS purposes, please use the following address: 4750 W. 16th St., Speedway, IN, 46224.
Parking is available in front of the Museum—accessible via the Gate 2 entrance. That parking area is FREE, except when the track is reserved for races and other private events. During events, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will require a ticket or charge an additional admission fee to enter the grounds.
The Museum is open every day except Christmas and Thanksgiving. Guests are welcome to stop by the museum while they’re visiting the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for other events.
However, tickets, credentials, and other admission fees for Speedway events do NOT include admission to the Museum. During these events, certain tours may not be available due to weather or track activity.
Sometimes our hours may vary on event days. We open extra early on certain days in May! Be sure to check our website to confirm before your visit.
The Museum strives to make its buildings, collections, programs and services accessible to all visitors. Companions or aides of persons with disabilities are admitted free of charge. Museum ADA services include:
- Free, accessible parking available to the south and west of the building.
- A limited number of wheelchairs available for guest use.
- Wheelchair-accessible tour buses and an ADA-compliant elevator.
- Subtitles on videos and bus tour narration for guests with hearing impairment.
- Special “touch tours” for guests with severe vision impairment.
