The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is proud to present “Rocket Rick Mears presented by Racemaker Press,” celebrating the living legend and superstar driver on the 30th anniversary of his epic fourth Indianapolis 500 race victory.
Rocket Rick Mears presented by Racemaker Press tells the story of Rick’s rise to INDYCAR superstardom, starting with the family’s move to southern California and Rick’s off-road racing days, to his big break in open-wheel racing to the incredible dynasty Mears and team owner Roger Penske built: four Indianapolis 500 victories, six “500” poles, and three INDYCAR championships in just 14 seasons.
See the iconic cars: Mears’ Pikes Peak International Hill Climb-winning dune buggy; the Eagle chassis in which he debuted in Indy car for motorsports legend Bill Simpson; and his Indianapolis 500-winning cars from 1979, 1984, 1988 and 1991. Learn about Mears “behind the scenes” through film, images and prized Mears artifacts. “Rocket Rick Mears” is open through March 2022.
