About the Museum

The  Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is one of the world’s premier collections of racing automobiles and artifacts—with more than 55,000 artifacts and over 300 vehicles. Our mission is to celebrate more than a century of the innovation, thrill, and cultural significance of motor racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Our facility currently boasts 37,500 sq. ft. of vintage cars, trophies, photographs, fine art, and other artifacts that capture the cultural significance of motorsports. Each year, we welcome more than 140,000 visitors, as race fans from around the world make the pilgrimage to the Racing Capital of the World.

The Museum is located inside the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval—between Turns 1 and 2. Guests should enter through Gate 2 along 16th Street. For GPS purposes, please use the following address: 4750 W. 16th St., Speedway, IN, 46224.

The Museum is open every day except Christmas and Thanksgiving. Guests are welcome to stop by the museum while they’re visiting the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for other events.

However, tickets, credentials, and other admission fees for Speedway events do NOT include admission to the Museum. During these events, certain tours may not be available due to weather or track activity.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is a public 501(c)(3) nonprofit operated by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Foundation and governed by a board of directors. The Foundation is the owner and steward of our museum’s vast collection of rare—and often one-of-a-kind—vehicles and artifacts.

As part of our mission, the Museum works diligently to preserve and protect the collection, while ensuring that it represents the rich history behind the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Indianapolis 500, and Indiana’s automotive industry. You can review our protocols for collection management here.

Thank you for your interest in wanting to contribute to our collection. If you have an item you would like to be considered for our collection, please contact rdunbar@brickyard.com.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide appraisal or evaluation services.

Plan Your Visit

General admission tickets to the Museum can be pre-purchased online at our Buy a Ticket page. Tickets are also available on site at the Museum for walk-in guests.

Please note that tickets cannot be pre-purchased on days when the Indianapolis Motor Speedway also charges Gate Admission. For these dates, general admission tickets are only available at the Museum after Gate Admission has already been purchased.

Parking is available in front of the Museum—accessible via the Gate 2 entrance. That parking area is FREE, except when the track is reserved for races and other private events. During events, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will require a ticket or charge an additional admission fee to enter the grounds.

The Museum strives to make its buildings, collections, programs and services accessible to all visitors. Companions or aides of persons with disabilities are admitted free of charge. Museum ADA services include:

  • Free, accessible parking available to the south and west of the building.
  • A limited number of wheelchairs available for guest use.
  • Wheelchair-accessible tour buses and an ADA-compliant elevator.
  • Subtitles on videos and bus tour narration for guests with hearing impairment.
  • Special “touch tours” for guests with severe vision impairment.
