1968 Winner

Driver: Bobby Unser

In 1968, Bobby Unser won his first Indianapolis 500 driving this Number 3 Rislone Special Eagle. Unser started the race on the outside of the front row alongside two turbine-powered cars driven by Graham Hill, in the middle of the front row, and Joe Leonard, in the pole position. The race shaped up as a three-way battle for the lead among Leonard, Unser, and Lloyd Ruby. Leonard held the lead as the caution light turned on for Carl Williams’ crash late in the race. When the green light flashed, Leonard’s turbine suffered a flame-out that put Unser into the lead for the final nine laps.
