Summer camps

Summer learning at the museum

Get ready for an unforgettable summer! Our inaugural summer camps will connect middle school students directly to the world of motorsports.

Summer camps at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum are designed to expose the next generation to the innovation, excitement, and thrill of racing. Campers will be exposed to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) concepts in a collaborative and team-focused environment.  They will work with their peers to solve problems, accomplish goals, and showcase their skills while learning about the workforce and future of racing here at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Contact the Education Department at 463.276.0526 or nslone@imsmuseum.org for any questions.

Robo Racers: July 7-11

Campers will have the chance to step into the “future” of racing by coding an autonomous version of a LEGO robot in this five-day camp. They will compete to see who can complete a predesigned road course in the quickest time possible, as well as work cooperatively with another team to earn the fastest average lap time. They will learn about team building, problem solving, basic coding, and autonomous racing in a fun and exciting way. The week will end with practice and qualifying laps for our “Innovation 500” race!

Discover the diverse careers behind a winning racing team! This five-day camp introduces middle schoolers to roles beyond the driver and pit crew, exploring the crucial contributions of at least 5-10 other team members. Participants will gain insight into how these roles drive success and learn the necessary skills and relevant coursework for pursuing similar career paths. Have you ever considered the many elements that contribute to a racing team’s greatness? Do you aspire to play a vital part in a driver’s victory? This camp will illuminate those possibilities.
