frequently asked questions
Does my family need to pre-register to attend?
No, families will be able to purchase tickets when they arrive; however, it is recommended to purchase your tickets ahead of time as space will be limited.
How many families are allowed to attend?
Due to the nature of this day, the Museum will limit access to 75-100 students per hour.
What age range will the activities be?
Our education department is working to develop activities that are appropriate for all ages from K-8th grade. Each main gallery space will have either a self-guided or staff-led experience that fits students in K-2, 3-5, or 6-8 grade.
How long should we plan to visit?
In order to utilize the activities and experiences available, we would recommend allotting about 2 hours for your visit. Of course, families are welcome to stay longer if they choose.
What do I need to bring?
While the Museum will supply the majority of materials needed for these activities, it is recommended that students/learners bring a preferred writing utensil and a hard surface to write on (clipboard or book) to complete some of the self-guided activities.
I have more than one child that I will bring with me, how will pricing work?
All children, ages 3 and up, may bring a free adult with them. We ask that families try and keep a ratio of 1 adult for every 4 children.
Do I need to stay with my children at all times?
Yes, we ask that parents/chaperones remain with any students that are under the age of 16 at all times.
What do parents do during the activities?
Parents are encouraged to work alongside their child/children and have fun! Students should not be left to complete activities/experiences on their own.
Will there be other people or groups in the building during this time?
Yes. While we are focusing this day around our homeschool families, there will be other general admission guests and groups that may enter.
Is there a place where we can eat lunch?
Our Museum has a grab-and-go snack stand located in the lower level. Families are welcome to eat in the Track Lounge. We ask that all food and drink be kept in the designated areas.
Can families go outside to their cars or leave for lunch and re-enter the museum?
No, once guests exit the Museum, they will need to purchase additional admission tickets to regain entry.
Is there a gift shop?
Yes! Once you are finished with your visit you will exit the gift shop where you can make purchases. Please be reminded that we are a cashless facility, so only credit/debit cards will be accepted.
How can we prepare for our visit?
We encourage families to explore our website to learn a little about the history of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500. This will help students to better understand some of the concepts they will work with during their visit.
Will track tours be offered on this day?
While we do plan to offer Kiss the Bricks tours on this day, these tours are subject to change due to weather. Track tours will be an additional charge of $15 per adult and $8 per child.
