Position Summary: The Human Resources and Accounting Manager plays a dual strategic and operational role within the organization. This position is responsible not only for managing core HR and accounting functions, but also for actively shaping and sustaining a strong, mission-driven organizational culture. The ideal candidate is both detail-oriented and people-centered—someone who understands that great financial stewardship and great culture go hand-in-hand. This leader will serve as a trusted advisor to management, champion employee engagement and accountability, and ensure systems, policies, and practices align with the Museum’s values and long-term vision. This role is essential in fostering a workplace culture that is collaborative, high-performing, compliant, and rooted in integrity.

Specific Duties:

Human Resources & Culture Leadership

  • Serve as a steward of organizational culture, helping define, reinforce, and evolve workplace values and expectations.
  • Partner with leadership to strengthen employee engagement, accountability, and performance alignment.
  • Lead onboarding and offboarding experiences that reflect the Museum’s mission and create a strong first and lasting impression.
  • Develop and enhance training and professional development programs that support growth, leadership development, and succession planning.
  • Oversee and refine the employee performance review process to promote clarity, coaching, and measurable results.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for employee relations matters, fostering open communication, conflict resolution, and a positive work environment.
  • Review, develop, and update the employee handbook, policies, and procedures to ensure clarity, consistency, and legal compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws (FMLA, ADA, EEO, etc.).
  • Administer payroll and maintain payroll records in accordance with regulations (ADP experience preferred).
  • Manage HRIS systems and ensure accurate employee data and reporting.
  • Oversee benefits administration, including enrollments, terminations, and employee education.

Accounting & Financial Stewardship

  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including bank reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Prepare financial reports, budgets, and forecasts in collaboration with the Director of Finance.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records and coordinate audit processes.
  • Strengthen and monitor internal financial controls and accounting procedures.
  • Support financial transparency and reporting appropriate for a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
  • Contribute to strategic planning through financial insights and operational analysis.
  • Lead or support special projects as needed.

 Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in HR and/or nonprofit accounting.
  • Experience in mission-driven or nonprofit organizations preferred.

Reports To: Guest Engagement Coordinator

FLSA Status: Part-time, Non-exempt

Position Summary:
The Gallery Lead helps create a welcoming, engaging experience by connecting guests to the stories and artifacts of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. They collaborate with volunteers, provide small group presentations over chosen topics, answer questions, and spark conversations that bring IMS history and culture to life. Gallery Leads also monitor spaces, support guest and volunteer needs, and share feedback to improve exhibits and programming.

Specific Duties:

  • Engage and Educate Visitors
    Use storytelling, public speaking, and conversation to connect guests with the history, culture, and impact of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and its events. Offer insights, answer questions, and tailor interpretation for diverse audiences.
  • Support and Guide Volunteers
    Collaborate with gallery volunteers to ensure a welcoming, interactive environment. Provide mentorship, answer questions, and act as a point of contact for volunteer support and communication.
  • Monitor Gallery Spaces
    Oversee guest flow, exhibit functionality, and gallery safety. Report any issues with exhibits, technology, or visitor behavior to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintain Subject Knowledge
    Develop and maintain expertise in IMS history, exhibit content, and storytelling techniques. Work with staff to stay current and continually improve interpretive strategies.
  • Gather Feedback and Support Programming
    Collect and communicate guest and volunteer feedback to improve exhibits and visitor experience. Assist with tours, events, and gallery-based programming as needed.

Position Summary:
The Qualifying Zone Facilitator leads the day-to-day operations of the museum’s most interactive gallery space. This role combines guest engagement, hands-on technology support, and volunteer coordination to ensure a fun, educational, and smooth-running experience for all visitors. Facilitators actively guide guests of all ages through interactive exhibits, using strong communication and storytelling skills to make complex racing concepts accessible and exciting. They troubleshoot and operate exhibit technology, monitor exhibit performance, and work closely with volunteers and museum staff to maintain a welcoming, safe, and dynamic environment. Success in this role requires comfort with technology, enthusiasm for motorsports, and the ability to collaborate, adapt, and lead in a fast-paced setting.

Position Summary:
The STEAM Facilitator will play a key role in delivering engaging and educational programming in the Innovation Workshop, a flexible, classroom-like space designed to inspire creativity and exploration. This individual will assist with pre-planned hands-on learning activities and experiments, directly connecting STEAM concepts to racing, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS), and motorsports culture. The STEAM Facilitator will work closely with guests of all ages—ranging from individuals to school groups—to facilitate various activities, experiments, and creative challenges. While not responsible for planning programs, the Facilitator will work with Education staff to execute activities, maintain materials, and ensure a dynamic and positive guest experience.

Specific Duties:

  • Engage and Support Guests
    Create a fun, inclusive environment where visitors of all ages feel welcome to explore, learn, and ask questions.
  • Prepare and Maintain the Space
    Set up tools and materials for daily or evening use, keep supplies organized, and report when items need repair or replacement.

Position Summary: The Ticketing and Reservation Lead provides ticketing and reservation support for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. This includes focusing on general admission and tour offerings of the IMS Museum and is ultimately responsible for booking individual and group event/ticket sales through the VBO ticketing platform. This position will work closely with the Ticketing and Reservations Manager and will collaborate with the Tour Operations Manager and Guest Services Manager for matters related to the VBO ticketing platform, ticket inventory, individual and group sales.

Specific Duties:

  • Work with individuals and groups leading them through the ticket sale and reservation process.
  • Sell, take orders, track and fulfill group ticket packages and memberships.
  • Respond to guest inquiries via phone and email in a timely, professional and hospitality-focused manner.
  • Create and update complete customer portfolios in the ticketing system.
  • Process payments, track invoicing and confirm payments/refunds for each group visit.
  • Assist with attendance reporting and other financial related information as needed.
  • Attend and contribute to required meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with some college or relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience in ticketing & reservations or sales preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Ticketing software (e.g., VBO Tickets).

Position Summary: We are looking for a responsible and experienced Tour Bus Driver to join our team. As a Tour Bus Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting guests around the grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring a memorable experience. Your role includes maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the bus, adhering to all company policies, and assisting passengers with boarding and disembarking. The ideal candidate is punctual, courteous, and has a strong commitment to safety. You should possess a valid CDL driver’s license, a clean driving record, and previous driving experience. Flexibility with working hours, including weekends and holidays, is essential. Specific Duties:

  • Primary responsibility is to sagely drive Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum tour busses around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval and infield to conduct tours for Museum guests.
  • Must be willing to accept a flexible work schedule, and willing to work some early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, with a valid CDL B and P endorsement, and pass a drug screening.
  • In order to be part of the team that will continue to grow and protect the IMS Museum brand, drivers must possess the following qualities and agree to the following actions:
    • Must be good with people, a “people person”, and make customer service the top priority.
    • Must be physically able and willing to assist persons with disabilities on and off tour busses; must be willing to learn how to safely use a built-in bus handicap lift.
    • Must be physically able to clean busses after each tour.

Reports To: Tour Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Part-time, Non-exempt

Position Summary: We are looking for an enthusiastic and responsible Tour Guide to join our team.  Tour Guides must be sociable and have a good knowledge of Indianapolis Motor Speedway and history of the track. They are responsible for welcoming guests and providing all tour options.  This position requires staff members to work cooperatively with Museum managers, fellow guides, and tour bus drivers.  With experience, a guide may have the option to lead Golf Cart Tours in which they will be asked to memorize tour paths and lead tours solo. Staff members will oversee prepping and maintaining carts before and after tours. Strong customer service skills are needed to ensure day-to-day operations are running smoothly. This position also calls for strong problem-solving skills as the museum utilizes multi-faceted technology items. They must also be able to make quick decisions daily. Shifts will be scheduled during regular Museum hours and/or during after-hours private events, including evenings and weekends. This position may require up to 32 hours per week of working time.

  • Explain Museum/tour options for the day.
  • Greet guests as they board the bus or golf cart, welcoming them.
  • Must be physically able and willing to assist people with disabilities on and off tour buses; must be willing to learn how to safely use a built-in bus handicap lift.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Guest Services Manager, the Welcome Center Lead will be responsible in assisting in the oversight and operations of the Welcome Center staff to provide and ensure the highest quality visitor experience and promote the Museum’s mission and strategic goals in all activities. This person is responsible for managing the operations that enhance the visitor experience and raise earned revenue. This position will provide excellent guest service to internal and external clients, including but not limited to daily visitors, members, IMS Museum and Penske Entertainment sponsors, donors, VIPs, community organizations and all stakeholders. Weekends (including IMS event weekends) required.

Specific Duties:

  • Assist in Supervision of all Guest Service Staff, including:
    • Welcome Center Attendants, selling Museum admissions, tours, special Museum programming, photo experiences/retail, memberships, and providing information to the general public, both in person and by phone.
  • Schedule part-time staff to assure appropriate coverage of Welcome Center and Photo with regard to anticipated visitor levels of daily attendance, after hours, special events and rentals.
  • Understand and communicate daily offerings of each department.
  • Follow procedures for all monetary transactions for cost of goods sold, including running opening/closing financial reports, balancing of daily banks, and following protocols for reconciling cash donations, daily.
  • Assist Guest Services Manager to monitor performance and provide input to performance reviews for Guest Service team members.
  • Implement training materials for point-of-sale software and retail sales processes.
  • Understand the offerings of the local community as well as IMS to provide information to visitors.
  • Handle guest inquires and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Conduct daily standup meeting with scheduled staff prior to opening.
  • Be able to perform all duties of Welcome Center staff to fill in during staff breaks and other times, as needed.
  • Ability to work extended and flexible hours, including nights and weekends when the museum is open and/or during special events.

 Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, plus two or more years proven experience in customer service, retail or hospitality industries.
  • Supervisory or managerial experience is preferred.
  • Highly self-motivated, well-organized with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced team environment.

  • Exceptionally good oral communication skills, with an emphasis on interpersonal relations.

Do you accept walk-ins?

Walk-ins are welcome as long as tickets are still available. If you’re planning on coming on an event date/race week, we highly recommend reserving tickets ahead of time. 

Walk-ins are also accepted for Track Tours.

The IMS Museum is a cashless facility. Please be prepared to complete your general admission, tour tickets, merchandise purchases and more via debit or credit card.

Yes, as long as we have tickets available for the time slot you want to move to, we can reschedule your ticket time. To do so, please to contact our Ticketing & Reservations Department at 463.244.2688 or email tours@imsmuseum.org. 

While we encourage guests to arrive 15 minutes before their time slot, tickets will be honored if you arrive earlier or later.

Tickets can be purchased up to 60 days in advance. If you’d like to book more than than 60 days out, please email tours@imsmuseum.org

A complimentary admission ticket will be issued to a licensed care provider for visitors requiring medical assistance to visit. The care provider must provide an employee badge from a licensed facility and a matching photo ID. This complimentary ticket is available to the caregiver when the visitor and accompanying guests present valid admission.

Currently, Track Tour tickets only appear once you choose your general admission tickets. Visit imsmuseum.org/tickets, choose your ticket date, time, and quantity, then click “Buy Tickets”. If Track Tours are offered that day, a box will appear on the next page to add a tour on to your purchase.

The Museum is located within an active racing facility. Due to track activity or weather, track tours may not be available the day of your visit. View our Tour Information page for the most up-to-date schedule.

Yes, the Museum is open on Race Day. We open at the same time as the track gates, 6 a.m.

Backpacks and coolers are not allowed inside the Museum or the IMS Gift Shop. A designated outdoor storage area is available for your belongings while you explore inside. A limited number of lockers can be found in the Museum Welcome Center, offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The Museum and IMS are not liable for any lost or stolen items.

Yes, strollers and diaper bags are allowed.

No, the Museum does not have a cafe or restaurant. However, there is a grab-and-go food and beverage stand in the Track Lounge, which is located on the lower level. The grab-and-go stand operates 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily. Food and beverages must remain in the Track Lounge and not brought into galleries.

The IMS Museum is home to the Official Shop of IMS. When entering the Museum, the gift shop is to the right. Museum admission is not required to access the gift shop.

The Museum doesn’t currently sell gift certificates for admission or track tours, but we are in the process of changing that. 

Any video, photographs, and recordings taken on Museum grounds shall be for private, noncommercial use only unless approved by the Museum. Photography is prohibited in areas designated by the Museum. Museum officials/staff reserve the right to request images be deleted if they are in restricted areas or other designated situations. If you are a member of the media, or a professional photographer hoping to shoot here for commercial purposes, please contact our Communications Manager at kburr@imsmuseum.org.  

No. Only named individuals on the membership receive free admission. Members guests’ only receive free admission when accompanied by a cardholder and if included in the membership level.  

Thank you for choosing an IMS Museum plate. Since the license plate is considered a donation, benefits are not included. We appreciate your support. 

As long as you purchase Museum admission, you can choose to do a Track Tour first. However, we recommend scheduling the tour a minimum of one hour after your Museum visit.

On event days, only guests with valid IMS parking passes will be allowed to park inside the grounds. Museum guests will need to park outside the gates and walk in during those times, unless you’d like to purchase a parking pass.

While most days there is no track activity, you can reference the Speedway’s calendar to see if the track is active during your visit. For your Museum visit specifically, Kulture City bags, which include headphones, are available at the Welcome Center desk.
