Cars are meant to run; race cars are meant to run fast. The IMS Museum is one of very few museums with an active race car and passenger car restoration department. Many of the 350 vehicles in our collection “run” or could be running with minimal amounts of work. Another portion were acquired as full-blown restoration projects and need significant work before they will be functional.

The restoration of these vehicles is important for current and future generations. Open-wheel racing cars have evolved significantly over the last 100+ years and having running examples of these vehicles is critical to the continued understanding of their mechanical evolution and the innovation behind it. Your support of the IMS Museum Restoration Project will help us explain and demonstrate the significant effect the automobile industry, racing, and the Indianapolis 500 have had, and continue to have, on our city and state.
