1994 Mustang Pace Car
78th Running of the Indianapolis 500
The 1994 Mustang Cobra, a major redesign to bring the Ford Mustang back to its iconic long nose/short deck proportions, was selected to pace the 78th running of the Indianapolis 500. Ford produced 1,000 SVT Cobra convertibles equipped with Ford’s 5.0-liter V8 engine mated with manual transmission producing 240 horsepower. All replicas were painted Rio Red with unique Indianapolis 500 graphics and Saddle Tan interiors.
This car was one of the three specially prepared Mustang GT convertibles that paced the race. All three official pace cars were equipped with Jack Roush tuned 5.0 Litre V8s with automatic transmission. Parnelli Jones, 1963 Indianapolis 500 winner, was selected to pace the start of the race.
