To Our Members and Supporters, re: Sale of IMS to Penske Corporation

Dear IMS Museum Members and Supporters:

You have likely heard the historic news that Penske Corporation is in the process of purchasing the assets of Hulman & Company, including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the NTT IndyCar Series, and IMS Productions. The sale does not include the IMS Foundation, which operates the Museum, or its collection.

As of the scheduled closure date for the sale of IMS—January 2020—the Hulman-George family will have devoted more than 74 years of leadership, investment, and passion into the motorsports industry. We thank them for their unwavering commitment to the sport, this iconic facility, and the preservation of so much racing history.

The IMS Museum staff congratulates Roger Penske and Penske Corporation for their historic investment in “The Racing Capital of the World.” We look forward to this new era of stewardship for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the many collaborative opportunities awaiting the IMS Museum and Penske Corporation to elevate the track and Museum to higher levels of fan engagement and customer service. Set in a globally-renown racing facility, the Museum aspires to become a globally-renown education and entertainment destination.

Our newest exhibit, “From the Vault” presented by Bank of America, opens November 20. We hope you will visit the Museum to see this one-of-a-kind display of priceless cars, trophies, racing memorabilia and artwork. All items in “From the Vault” presented by Bank of America are part of our collection, but rarely if ever displayed previously.

As an independent non-profit organization, we welcome and rely upon your continuing support via membership, donations, attending our events and exhibits, and corporate partnerships. These avenues of generosity are how the Museum lives, grows, and develops dynamic educational programming in order to share the Speedway’s legacy. Thank you for your support.

With warmest regards,

Betsy Smith
Executive Director
